Vinteum, a nonprofit supporting open-source Bitcoin development, has been running focused in-person developer retreats to accelerate work on critical infrastructure projects. According to Vinteum, the retreats brought together contributors from DIY hardware wallet projects Krux, SeedSigner, and Specter-DIY to address shared dependencies and fragile maintainership around Embit, a core Bitcoin library for embedded systems. A separate gathering assembled the Floresta team with Utreexo researchers Tadge Dryja and Calvin Kim, producing a decision to incorporate Ruben Somsen's SwiftSync protocol for dramatically faster initial block download on lightweight nodes. Additional retreats covered Stratum V2 mining infrastructure and Bitcoin Core fuzzing in partnership with Brink. As one participant described, meeting in person made it possible to "build shared dreams, not just shared code." The format compresses months of asynchronous discussion into days of side-by-side work, targeting the organizational bottlenecks that slow under-resourced teams building at the base layer.

Writing in his newsletter, Frank Corva highlights how Bitcoin and freedom technology functioned as emergency infrastructure in Jamaica after a hurricane knocked out banking and communications systems last November. According to Corva, residents used the Flash bitcoin app to move funds and the peer-to-peer messaging tool Bitchat to coordinate aid distribution when traditional systems went dark.
