The Lightning Network continues to evolve as a dynamic, graph-based layer for scalable Bitcoin payments, with public tools enabling builders, enthusiasts to visualize capacity, liquidity flows, and fee dynamics despite inherent privacy limitations on balances and private edges. Mempool.space tools offer high level network health snapshots, including live capacity around 5,300 BTC across roughly 17,000 nodes and 41,000 channels, alongside topology maps that reveal hub concentrations and graph connectivity. Enterprise tool, Amboss delivers operator-grade analytics with rankings of big movers in liquidity and channels, while 1ML provides classic directories highlighting top-capacity nodes and geographic trends. For node managers, dashboards like ThunderHub, Ride The Lightning, and Lightning Terminal allow operators to track private liquidity shifts and routing performance securely. As Kirubai notes in this resource guide for Lightning Network Exploration, "good visualization is worthless if it forces you to leak credentials or sensitive node metadata," refocusing the conversation towards encrypted, self-sovereign tools.

The surge in AI-related stock valuations has propelled nine of the world's ten largest companies, all but one American, to dominate over half the US economy, fueled by promises of ensuing human level intelligence and unmatched productivity gains. Massive investments, estimated to reach $5 trillion by 2030, have driven US growth through data centers, chips, and infrastructure, yet a shift to project debt financing and 'creative' deals, like Meta's $30 billion Louisiana facility via Beignet Investor, raise new project sustainability concerns. As the FT’s Ruchir Sharma observed, “America is now one big bet on AI.” While productivity boosts in coding and customer service have shown immediate promise, adoption still lags relative to investment, risking workforce demoralization amid ecological strains. AI's potential for innovation has still captured the hearts and wallets of investors, despite ongoing valuation inflation and bubble warnings.

Riot Platforms, Inc. has solidified its pivot toward large-scale data center development through the fee simple acquisition of 200 acres at its Rockdale Site, for $96 million, funded by selling approximately 1,080 bitcoin from its balance sheet, and the execution of a landmark lease with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) for an initial 25 MW of critical IT load capacity. With delivery phased from January to May 2026, the 10-year agreement, including extension options potentially worth $1 billion total and expansion rights up to 200 MW, is expected to generate about $311 million in revenue initially and an average $25 million in annual net operating income, leveraging Riot's existing infrastructure during retrofitting. This expands Riot's fully approved power portfolio to 1.7 GW across Texas facilities in a prime market. "This partnership represents a validation of Riot’s infrastructure, development capabilities, the attractiveness of our sites, our readily available power capacity, and our ability to offer innovative solutions to meet the requirements of top-tier tenants," said Jason Les, CEO of Riot Platforms.

Blockspace Media has acquired Bitcoin Layers, an independent data platform specializing in metrics for Bitcoin's layer-2 and scaling solutions, marking the company's strategic shift from journalism toward proprietary data and intelligence tools for the bitcoin industry. The deal integrates Bitcoin Layers' on-chain analytics into Blockspace's offerings, including a new dashboard tracking adoption, total value locked, and activity across L2 networks and bridging protocols. As Micah Zimmerman reports, more than 361,830 BTC, valued over $34.5 billion, is locked in these systems as of mid-January. "Blockspace is more than a Bitcoin publication," said William Foxley, co-founder of Blockspace. "We're building a platform to cover the investable landscape of Bitcoin-related assets." This move offers investors and developers clearer insights into currently fragmented scaling architectures, allowing for more informed participation in the expanding ecosystem. Plans are ongoing for broader coverage of equities, ETFs, and market intelligence from the Blockspace Media team in 2026.
