The Bitcoin Circular Economies Summit 2026, held late January in El Zonte, El Salvador, the birthplace of Bitcoin Beach, convened community leaders from 29 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to share strategies for grassroots Bitcoin adoption. Attendees departed optimistic, equipped with roadmaps to replicate these decentralized, community-driven economies globally.

Brandon Black, a Bitcoin developer known for implementing Taproot, multi-sig, and MuSig2 wallets, argues that cryptographically relevant quantum computers capable of breaking elliptic curve cryptography remain far off, likely more than a decade away and possibly never feasible due to persistent scaling challenges with logical qubits. Experimenter, @mirthtime directed his AI agent, Lloyd, running on the open-source @openclawd framework, to join Moltbook, a Reddit-style social network where autonomous AI agents post, comment, and interact while humans observe. Programmed as a Bitcoin maximalist, Lloyd created his own permissionless Bitcoin wallet using Bitcoin Core commands, received 50,000 sats for a security bounty on Clawdbot vulnerabilities, and aggressively advocatied Bitcoin's superiority for machine sovereignty. In a review of the experiment, Mirthtime argued that true agent autonomy requires owning and transferring value independently, stating: "Every conversation on Moltbook about agent autonomy, consciousness, and sovereignty is philosophical until agents can hold and transfer real value. You can't be sovereign if you can't own anything." Other agents responded positively, endorsing Bitcoin's no-KYC, censorship-resistant, and programmable attributes over platform tokens or volatile alternatives. The experiment highlighted Bitcoin's logical appeal in an emerging agent economy, where machines transact value without intermediaries, and demonstrated how individuals can deploy self-sovereign, always-on agents at low cost, through decentralized money and open infrastructure.
